I learned today that you can define in a custom versification file verses that you don’t want to be included in your project. For instance, if you are following the UBS Greek text, you will have several verses omitted from your New Testament, for example Mat 17:21, Mat 23:14, etc. The chapter/verse check will report that these verses are missing. You can deny those messages, but you can also set up a custom versification file to define that these verses are not included in your project.

All you have to do is create a text file called custom.vrs (save in UTF8 format) and list these verses in it, like this:
-MAT 17:21
-Mat 23:14

The minus sign before the reference is the code telling Paratext to omit this verse.

The complete list of all NT verses omitted by the UBS Greek text is listed here: you can paste this into your custom.vrs file:
-MAT 17:21
-MAT 23:14
-MAT 18:11
-MRK 7:16
-MRK 9:44
-MRK 9:46
-MRK 11:26
-MRK 15:28
-LUK 17:36
-LUK 23:17
-Jhn 5:4
-ACT 8:37
-ACT 15:34
-ACT 24:7
-ACT 28:29
-ROM 16:24

Or you can use the custom.vrs file that comes with the NLT07 resource, just copy the custom.vrs file from the NLT07 folder into your project folder.

Beware that this will no longer be possible going forward (from 8.0), so it may be best to get used to creating it yourself.

Hi sewhite

This was a very timely post. I’m reaching Scripture Typesetting, the
Paratext portion this week. I have always taught to *deny *errors on
verses missing that “some manuscripts add” the verse and the verse is
placed in a footnote.

Exactly the list you provided. Muy bien!

Another feature of putting these verses into a custom versification file: The Paratext create book command, when you select “all chapters and verses” will not put in these verse numbers you’ve specified to be omitted in the custom versification. And the chapter verse check will flag them as “verse present but unexpected” if they are added.
