Error installing PT8

Question

Hi all,

I just reset Windows 10 on a mother tongue translator’s laptop and I’m trying to install PT8. It is failing to install C++ or perhaps whatever should get installed after C++. It tries and fails four times to download a certain .exe file from Microsoft. The error that shows up in the log is

After it fails the fourth time it fails “while caching” and then goes on to undo a few things it had done earlier so that it can quit and deliver the GUI error message to the user, which is “One or more issues caused the install to fail. Contact your support person for help fixing the issues and then retry. Tech support persons can open the log file here.”
I have included the last 20 lines of the log file below in case it helps.

This laptop has an issue with its keyboard. Many keys do not work and sometimes it sends a stream of 8’s which does not stop until you hit the Esc key. The translator is using an external keyboard which solves the first problem but not the problem with the 8’s which still happens sometimes.

Do you think the install fails because of the keyboard issue? Or might there be something wrong with the installation of Windows 10 that I just did? What else can I try?

We are in the middle of UNS testing, so it would be very helpful if we could install Paratext again soon so this translator can use her laptop to access her notes and resources.

The problem is that you have the Online version of the Paratext installer and that version tries to download some files from the internet. These downloads are failing.

If you use the larger offline installer, it includes all files that are needed.

The offline installer for Paratext 8 is here:

Yes it did! Thank you very much, John+Wickberg. I didn’t try the offline installer because I do have internet access. I didn’t realize it was cutting out on me. Thanks so much, now this translator can pick up where she left off and participate fully in the rest of this UNS check!
