I started ParaTExt this morning and noticed a green progress bar in the lower right corner of the screen. Wha…?! I right clicked on the bar and found that ParaTExt was downloading an update.
- it would be really nice to have some indication as to what the progress bar is about–in this malware infested world, mystery progress bars are not fun…
The download finished and I got the following two messages in two separate windows:
“Software updates for Paratext are ready to install. Please restart the application at your convenience.”
“Update ptw7.5.100.72 has been downloaded, and a restart of Paratext is required to install it.”
I clicked ‘OK’ on both windows, dutifully closed ParaTExt, and restarted it. And the download started again… I thought it might be a different download, so I let it finish. I got the same two messages again. I checked Help > About and found I was still running the version I had been before the ‘update’ process started. The messages led me to believe that the update would be installed automatically. I closed the two windows again, closed ParaTExt, and started it a third time. The download started again and, as far as Help > About is concerned, the previously downloaded update still has not been installed.

as frustrating as this is in an internet capable country, it would be all that and more in a difficult / expensive internet context

how do I go about updating ParaTExt? Do I need to run the downloaded .pud file manually?
