I have been trying to install a local resource into paratext Lite.
I am interested in both

  • Installing a personal, unregistered project, and
  • Installing a general resource without having to go on the internet.

I put both a PT backup file (*.ZIP) and a *.P8z file on my tablet, but have had no success installing either one of these.

So I have two questions:

  1. What format does the local resource have to be in?
Can PT Lite unpack Paratext Backup files, that are packaged as ZIP files, or can it only install *.p8z files?

  2. Where does the local resource have to be located on the tablet, it looks be default among “recent” files. It does not appear that I can browse to make it look elsewhere.

  1. *.p8z only. (Note lower case p)
PT Lite at this time doesn’t support backup files.
  2. When installing a local resource, PT Lite shows the android folder picker. This may look different on various android devices but it should be possible to navigate so as to browse to other locations. Select the folder that contains the p8z files. (It doesn’t search subfolders).

Thank you for your response. Me not being able to find the location of the files was definitely an Android issue… I finally figured it out.

You need to install a file management app on your device to make things easier. Also, be aware not all tablets seem to accept data from their USB ports. Maybe, in some models the USB port is only for charging purposes.

Hello PeterK, do you know where the Paratext local resources are stored on the Android Phone. I have them download there, but not on my Windows 10 PC and I want to copy these to the Windows 10 PC.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I noticed recently that when trying to s/r to a Kindle fire tablet running PTlite, the app said it was unable to read or write to the USB stick, despite having storage permissions turned on. I regularly use that USB stick to move files onto the Kindle, so I’m not sure what the problem might be. (I ended up having to s/r from the internet)
