We are using Paratext 8.0.100.63 but I recall seeing this for several versions of Paratext

I’m finding that if I were to apply \q1 to a verse, I am not able to break out of \q1 by typing \b. \b is not an option that is available. I can, after putting my cursor at the end of the relevant text, apply \b by selecting \b from the style pull down menu but that actually changes the \q1 to a \b. I have to switch to unformatted view. The only way I’ve found to add the \b or to apply another style with out changing the \q1 is to switch to unformatted view.

Is there something I’m doing wrong?

If you are using the default style sheet and you are in Standard View, simply pressing Enter twice will put in a \b. Even if you are using a custom style sheet this is usually the case. If it is not true for your project, someone familiar with style sheets can make it so.

Thank you CrazyRocky, I did not know that. Very helpful indeed.

MSEAIT/LT are you pressing enter and then b or backslash and backsplash and then B. To add a paragraph marker you should press enter. You can do this with a backslash if you simply type backslash b space.

Thank you anon848905. I think I was confused by \b not showing up in the list of options when I type \b
I see \bd \bdt \bk but \b is not listed. I now see that i can type \b to apply the \b marker and \p to get the \p marker.

Just to say it one more time. When you work in Standard view:

To add a paragraph type marker (p, q, s, r, mt, b, etc) you would normally press the Enter key and then you will see a list of paragraph type markers.

To add a character type marker (bd, add, ft, v, etc) you would normally press the \ key and then you will see a list of character type markers.

In either case you can press Enter or \ and then manually enter the marker you want followed by the space key.

The exception to this is that if you highlight a text and press the \ key you can add character markers around the highlighted text. If you highlight text and press the Enter key the text will be replaced by a new line.
