I have one Paratext install that is displaying extra slashes in many resources and the BT draft as well.
I go to the BT draft and type ALT-X and it says there really is a 002F present ‘according to Paratext’.
But a CTRL-H search on a '/" does not find any slashes…
They are usually at the end of a phrase, I think it is misinterpreting something, but don’t know how to fix it.

Any ideas?

This is now seen by multiple laptops on multiple teams.

I submitted a problem report from one of the laptops.

If you are talking about the slashes shown in the left-hand pane, then that is by-design. In the Text Collections window, the slashes represent paragraph breaks in the text.

However, it does seem pointless to include the slash for the paragraph marker that occurs at the end of the verse.

Ok, but we didn’t use to see them. Was that feature added?

We also see the ‘/’ sometimes in our own BT in the right pane. Is that expected? I have never seen that before.

Why would we want to see slashes on every paragraph?

Yes, this was a fairly recent change. Previously, paragraph markers were shown by adding a new line to the text. However, many users felt this wasted too much space so it was changed to be shown as a slash.

No, the slashes are not actually added to the text. It is just shown this way in the left pane of the Text Collections window.

Why would we want to see slashes on every paragraph in the left pane?

Apparently I’m not being clear.

The slashes are to show paragraph breaks in the text. That is why you would want to see them. However, As you can see in your screenshot, there is currently a bug where it’s showing the paragraph break at the end of a verse even if there is no text following it. That bug is written up and should be fixed in some future update to Paratext.

Sorry. I am obviously missing your point.

It is possible to show a paragraph break without any special character being displayed, why is displaying a special character desirable in the left pane?

listentwice,
It is helpful when asking for information if you can tell what version of PT is being used. Sometimes just knowing that it is PT8 is not enough since there have been a number of updates. It also might be significant if the person is on Windows or Linux. For something like this it is also helpful to have a screenshot.

Your best bet is to use Help > Report a problem so that the basic project information is sent into the help system.

They are using update 50 and using Windows. I will submit it when I get back to their office.

The other members of the team do not see these slashes in the draft BT. So I do not believe they are really there, but Paratext on their system obviously does think they are there.

Thanks

We had users complaining that they couldn’t see paragraph breaks in the left pane, and it was annoying having to show the right pane and switch between resources to see them. Thus, we added full paragraph breaks in the text in the left pane. However, then people started complaining that it wasted a lot of vertical space in e.g. poetry sections, so we decided to change the paragraph breaks to being shown as slashes.

That is why there are now slashes in the left pane.

Wouldn’t a bold ℙ mark do better? It’s in some KJV printings I think.
