It appears that for all projects that I have created in PT8 RegEx Pal displays text in the find and replace windows using Symbol font. What I see are horoscope signs, circles, squares, and other shapes.

DingbatsCapture

This is only happening to new projects I create in PT8. Projects migrated from PT7 does not appear to have this issue Older projects in the same language do not show this behavior. What do I need to do to stop this from happening?

Now I’m getting dingbats in those two fields, and nothing I do, e.g. closing and reopening RegEx Pal, seems to fix it. Not even:

Just talked with anon848905 and he helped me work this out. The simple fix was to simply change the font used to display the project. This seemed to reset the font and RegEx Pal now displays correctly

Sometimes I do a simple find of something like \id and then it seems to
pick up the project font. Otherwise it seems to use some system font that I
am not sure where it comes from.

@CrazyRocky’s screenshot doesn’t show the before/after boxes below the find/replace specification fields. Is RegEx Pal supposed to use the project font for those fields and the boxes below? or only in the Find/Replace fileds?

I am working with a language where there are no Unicode codepoints for most of the required character+diacritic combinations, so the SIL v4-and-above fonts are the only ones that display the characters correctly. In the before/after boxes, RegEx Pal doesn’t seem to display the text of the project in Charis SIL Compact, which is what the project specifies.

I can supply screenshots if necessary.

RegexPal should use the project font in both boxes. This is what I have always experienced, except of course in the above example, which is an anomaly.

However i only use standard Unicode fonts I have no experience with SIL v4 fonts.

wdavidhj,

I can’t tell from your message if you tried a different font with the project or not. Try changing the font to Charis SIL and then check RegExPal. Please note that there are different versions of the Charis fonts and it is possible that you have an older version. Check the website for the latest version.

When in doubt - one of the first things to try is a Paratext reset (after closing everything including Windows and trying a regular restart).

So you want me to change the font in the Project’s Language Settings, correct? Currently it’s set to Arial. Should a font like Arial cause problems?
