I have a user who has a Notes project in 7.5 and is about to upgrade to 8. I saw there was an “auxiliary” project type, which seems to be the correct type for a Notes project. However, the Help file says an Auxiliary Project “Does not allow anyone to add a user, remove a user, or to change the role of a user. Users and their roles will be locked to whatever the users and their roles are in the base project.”

Do I understand that this is the correct project type for a Notes project and that users CAN still be added/removed, but that is done via the Parent Project only?

Thank you,

SIL+LSS+PNG,

Look at the following thread. It may tell you how to do what you want to do.

Yes, this is the type of thing that auxiliary projects were made for.

This restriction was removed in 8.0.100.17. Auxiliary projects can now have differing users and user roles.

There is a consultant notes project type as is referenced in the thread I shared above. If you are talking about a project that contains notes that are only relevant for one vernacular text, then yes auxiliary project type would be a good option. You could make a standard project for your notes, but you should not share it (e.g. set it up for send and receive.) The intend is that only projects that will eventually be published are to be on the Paratext server.
