When I downloaded the most recent TNN/TND resource update today, a box popped up saying that fonts had been downloaded to the _resources folder, and could be installed via settings. When I found the folder & font files, though, it looks like it's just Times New Roman (plain + bold, italic, and bold-italic). Are these actually different from the Times New Roman font(s) I already have? Do I need to download them, or are they just being made available in case people don't have the Times New Roman fonts installed?

They are just available in case you don't already have them. They shouldn't be any different than the ones you already have.
