In poetry q1 when the line runs over it indents by 9 spaces, and I want to shorten that to 5 spaces.

Our poetry is all in sfm \q1 and most of the lines are short enough to be within the margin. However a few times when the line is long and runs over, the continuation under it is indented 9 spaces. Doesn't look good.  I can't find in the poetry menu anywhere to specify the tab when a \q1 line runs more than one line on the page.

Make sure you are using "Full view" and click on the Styles tab.

In Styles you can search for "q" and this will open the list of \q markers.

Under the paragraph settings you can set the left indent factor and the first line indent factor. Note that with the first line, the number is negative to create an "outdent".
You can adjust the left indent factor to a smaller number.

Thanks Phil, but what I was asking about is something else, I don't know the technical term. When a \q line of poetry is really long and continues on the next line, there is a very long indentation for the continuation.  Looks like this (I'm showing the standard format markers):

(\q1) Hooreeɓe mayre ɓee saabe ngeenaari jammba carirta,
(\q1) yottinooɓe sadaka mayre ɓee saabe keɓal mumꞌen
                         njannginirta.
(\q1) Non annabaaɓe mayre ɓee duu.
