I am a volunteer (limited experience with PT) helping a translation team get the Gospels and Acts ready to be uploaded into the DBL. We are using square backets in the text to identify passages that may be in some manuscripts, such as the passage about the adulterous woman in John 7:53-8:11. We do have a footnote to explain this.

PT shows the error message Invalid or unknown character: [.  The Punctation Inventory shows the square bracket as a Approved. The Unicode designations are 005B and 005D.

I do not why we are getting this error message.

Thank you in advance for your help.

When working with punctuation characters you must mark the character valid in the Characters inventory as well as the Punctuation inventory.

For a little more clarification, since it might be a little strange, the Punctuation Inventory tells Paratext where punctuation can be used, and the Characters Inventory tells Paratext what punctuation (and other characters) can be used.
