I am an administrator on a standard project and the project has numerous auxiliary projects associated for which I am not an admin. I wish to delete all of the projects (standard & aux) without involving the original admin that set them all up. How can this be done? Thanks.

First question: Delete them from where?

  • Your computer - no problem, just delete them
  • Everywhere - you need to be an administrator or have the project administrator delete them. You need to have everyone on the project(s) delete the project from their computer as well (this can be complicated - trying to communicate with all the people on a project.

Second question: Do you have roles on the other projects?

  • If you are a consultant, you can temporarily act as an administrator.
The auxiliary projects should be deleted first before the Standard project.
So, how? Here is what I would do:
  • Starting with the auxiliary projects. Communicate with the users that you are planning to delete the project
  • Go to User Permissions and delete all the other users from the project and do a S/R
  • Delete the project and choose "Delete for all users" - this removes the project from the serve and registry as well as your computer.
  • Tell the users to delete the project from their computers.

Hi Phil
So, please can you clarify:
To delete the auxiliary projects, only an admin or a consultant can delete these? Thus, it seems that Jeremy would need to be given admin permissions to each AUX project. Can this be done by the original admin, through the registry, or only through PT? Only after Jeremy obtains permissions, then could he follow the steps listed at the end of your reply. Is that correct?

Thanks
Yes, only an admin or consultant with admin privilges can delete a project from the registry and server. So, once Jeremy has received the permissions, he can proceed with the steps outlined.
Unfortunately, you cannot change the members of an auxillary project in the registry. This must be done by someone on the project. If Jeremy is not a member of the auxillary project, an admin of that project would need to add him. In the event that there are no admins or consultants existing on the project you can use the Paratext menu > Help > Give Feedback to request assistance.
