One of our team members is encountering an issue with Paratext as it refuses to open, displaying an error message that reads, "Unable to load DLL 'mozglue'...". I have attached a screenshot to provide more information about the error. Despite attempting to reset Paratext and even reinstalling it, the problem persists. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter.

The "mozglue.dll" is part of the Firefox based HTML control that Paratext uses.

If reinstalling Paratext hasn't helped, the next most likely problem would be a runtime package that it uses. To fix this, try the following:

  1. Open "Add and remove programs" - should be able to find this by clicking on the Windows menu and typing: Add
  2. In the search box, type: Visual C++
  3. Several options may be listed, but you want to uninstall the version for Visual Studio 2015-2022 (x64)
  4. Use this link to download the runtime: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
  5. Double click on the downloaded file to install it.

If Paratext was running on this machine, my guess is that a Windows update caused the problem.

This is still relevant with Paratext 9.4 in 2024. There is a FAQ about it on the Paratext website.
