In one of our projects, we inserted footnotes using the insert cross reference tool in Paratext after everything was drafted and checked. This placed the cross references at the beginning of the verse rather than the end. Does anyone have a robust regex expression that will move the cross refs to the end of the verse?

The notes inserted at the beginning are a good way to avoid placing them in an undesirable place.

To consider moving them to the end of each verse you would need to be clear about what to do in particular situations. For example:

  • Where would you place the note if the verse had 2 or more paragraphs (I imagine that sometimes it will make sense to have it in one or another paragraph depending on the information in the note)?
  • Where would you place the note if there were other markers such as q#?
  • Would the note be attached to the last word? What would you decide if that line of text ended with nested punctuation such as (.").
It would be necessary to evaluate things like this to see if it is helpful to move them at the end.

Pepe.
