I've heard about AI in Bible Translation - is Scripture Forge using state-of-the-art AI and how well does it work?

Yes, Scripture Forge can provide suggestions as you type! In order to use the suggestions feature successfully, your project should meet a couple of qualifications. You can enable translation suggestions if your project

  • is adapting from a related language source text
  • has at least one gospel or 600-700 verses of text translated and checked

Scripture Forge uses advanced AI techniques: natural language processing (NLP) is used to learn from the translation you've already completed, and statistical machine translation (SMT) applies that learning to your source text to provide suggestions as you type.

Several factors can affect the results for a particular project, including:

  • how much text is already translated
  • how closely related the source and target languages are
  • how closely the style of the translation follows the style of the source text

It's simple to connect your Paratext project at Scriptureforge.org and try the suggestions for yourself. Please share your experience here or write to help at scriptureforge.org.
