About 90% of the time the closing tags are not automatically showing up. For example, after I type “\k Keyword” I then type \k. The \k* should show up as the first item in the drop downlist, but it doesn’t it only \k shows. So i have to type in the *. Not sure why this is happening. There are no red markers before it. I have restared paratext but it didn’t make a difference. But then randomly the closing tab will show up 10% of the time, but i can’t seem to find any reason why it works those times. This is happening will all the markers that have closing tag. Any help would be great.
Thanks

It is interesting that this fails. Just a couple of thoughts. One way to be sure of getting the opening and closing markers around a text is to select the text before typing the . When you select the character style you want it should automatically add the opening and closing markers. This works when you are in Standard view. In Unformatted view it will replace the text!

Note that to see character styles (like \k) you should type the backslash (\). If you use the Enter key then you see a list of paragraph markers. If you type k then you will see two options \k1 and \k2, you won’t see \k* as an option. If you type the * then it will in fact enter the \k*.
If you have already entered the opening marker (\k) then when you type \ the \k* should already be highlighted in blue (and is somewhat hard to see). You should be able to simply press the Enter key to select the highlighted marker.

Having said all of that - the marker data is based on the stylesheets that you are using. If you are using a custom.sty or frtbak.sty file it might change how the markers act.

Yeah…I’m typing it the correct way. I enter the opening marker (\k) then I type in the desired text, then I type the \k again. At this point, the \k* marker should be highlighted and I should be able to just hit enter. But most of the time I get the following:

If i hit enter at this point it just inserts the \k opening marker and not the \k* ending marker.

If I just type the \ without the k" after the text then it does give me the \k* option, but it’s the 5th or 6th option down on the list. i can select it with my mouse, but i can’t just hit enter.

I do have a custom.sty file, but it doesn’t seem to be causing the issue as far as i can tell. This is what is in the .ty file

Any thoughts???
Thanks

It should work (it does for me). One thing to try is a Paratext reset. This will close your project windows, but not affect your data. You can learn more about a reset at:

If this still doesn’t help, can you use Help > Give Feedback to report the issue with the book that is having the particular issue then we can see your files and hopefully diagnose what is going wrong.
