I’m training consultants and one of my CiTs is observing how I consultant check a project. She has been made an observer. Unfortunately observers cannot create the interlinear and there isn’t a back translation available. At first, I printed the interlinearizer as a pdf for her. But then I heard that you could create a project and export the interlinear into that project. I tried to do that, but even though there was a box to select for Output glosses to a project, I couldn’t select it. Is this limited to only administrators?

Yes, you have to be an administrator to change the interlinearizer settings in a project, so you cannot check that “output glosses to a project” box f you are not an administrator of the project being interlinearized.

Yes, the observer role is very limited by design. The roles in Paratext are such that a consultant typically asks the team to create and fill in the interlinearer and/or create a back translation. I have also been helping check projects where the consultants and CiT’s had to rely heavily on the interlinearer and oral back translation. (We found a grammar and short wordlists to help fill in the interlinearizer.) Two options for you all would be to temporarily give the CiT the Consultant role, or to make a copy of the project for the CiT and make him/her the administrator. Feel free to contact me off list if you would like to discuss your situation.
