What are my options for publishing a large collection of OT portions (approximately 100 books/passages) with:

  • Publishing Assistant or PTXprint
  • SAB
  • DBL/You Version

Is it OK to keep in Paratext adjacent text which will not be published, or must these portions be removed (e.g. by editing a copy of the Paratext project)?

Should I mark the beginning and end of portions with \sts or \ts-s* … \ts-e* and use changes.txt to remove text which is not being published? Is there another marker which is more appropriate?

Is editing custom.vrs necessary or helpful?

For electronic publications, should every book and chapter be included, with some being simply “This book/chapter has not been translated”?

Would a Bible Module be the answer?

What works well and not so well?

I'm new to this support.bible site, but I like the fact that it highlights messages that haven't been answered yet. And I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to respond, but better late than never!

Yes, what you are asking for is easy using PTXprint; especially if you have a list of passages that need to be printed, as that could easily be turned into a module and used directly (i.e. you don't have to even open the module in Paratext in order to print it using PTXprint). Just select it on the list of options:

Avoid changing the custom.vrs; and avoid adding temporary \sts markers or milestones. You certainly don't want to have to make a copy of the project just to remove the unwanted portions!

Ultimately we would like to support "Priorities" as defined in Paratext, but we're not there yet.

Someone else will need to speak up about whether you can upload partial texts to the DBL.

Regarding SAB, you can always take the USFM output which PTXprint produces (have a look in the folder: My Paratext 9 Projects\XYZproject\local\ptxprint\Default\ to see the generated USFM file, which could easily be ingested into SAB without any further work).
