I am testing the new release of Scheherazade, Lateef, and Harmattan. The Type Tuned versions of these fonts work fine in our projects. But in some applications (e.g. Word) it is possible to use a non-tuned version and select the language specific features within the application.

The presence of the "Font Features" tab in the language settings menu implies that this should be possible in Paratext also. But the "Choose" button for selecting font features is grey/dead. Is there some other setting I need to change to enable this?

This a font version issue. According to the Charis site:

  • Graphite has been removed (As of version 6.0). Application and OS support for OpenType has greatly improved, so the need for Graphite in this font family is greatly reduced. If this affects you, and you find that OpenType does not provide sufficient support for your needs, please contact us right away. (https://software.sil.org/charis/support/)

Version 5 of the SIL fonts works with the font settings tab, but version 6 does not apparently. If you need these settings you could try installing version 5 from the software.sil.org site.

You need to be an administrator to change the font settings.
