I’m using 9.1 and have had an issue with the WEB version text being all garbled (with Strongs numbers metadata showing?) I can only avoid this by viewing the module as “Preview” but then I don’t benefit from seeing the formatting (which I use frequently in the Text Collection window). It’s been quite a few months, maybe since last fall, that this problem is persisting and the colleagues I have checked with have the same glitch in their program. I’ve tried deleting the module and reinstalling but to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I just now uploaded the World English Bible USA without Strong’s numbers to the DBL and made it open access so that it should be available to everyone as a resource in Paratext. It is exactly the same as the World English Bible American Edition except that all of the Strong’s numbers have been stripped out so that it will display in a more useful way in Paratext. I think it makes a much better example and reference text this way. Hopefully Paratext will eventually be fixed so that the display of a text with Strong’s numbers is better, as there are other Bibles in the DBL with Strong’s numbers, and it wouldn’t make sense to duplicate all of them with Strongs/non-Strongs number versions.

Thank you very much! I found it and it’s exactly what I was hoping for. Yes, eventually it would be nice for the Strongs numbers to work, but for now I have my translators use the ESV enhanced resource for some basic word lookups.
(I noticed there was an update today to the WEB module as well, but whatever was updated it wasn’t the strongs number issue)

The issue with the Strong’s numbers in the WEB text is that Paratext puts no-break spaces between the \w* \w markers. Since every word is marked with \w…\w* \w…\w* the text ends up having no-break spaces between each word. This is an issue that has been reported to the Paratext development team.

Yes, there WAS an update to the World English Bible with Strong’s numbers, but there was ALSO a NEW variation added to the DBL, as well. The World English Bible USA without Strong’s is the one you want. It has no Strong’s numbers. The versions of the World English Bible (American and British/International) with Strong’s numbers still have those, and will still display like garbage in Paratext, BUT, the Strong’s numbers are useful for many applications, so they will stay.

This has been reported as an issue to the Paratext developers. The issue occurs because each word of the WEB is marked with \w…\w* markers (to add the Strong’s numbers). No guarantees as to how quickly it will get fixed. For the moment, there is now easy way to use this version since even in Preview mode the words do not wrap.

Thanks anon848905. I don’t remember this happening when I first switched to Paratext 9. Is there possibly a non-Strongs tagged version of WEB that we can use?
(I know I have the WEB with no Strongs numbers as an Accordance module, maybe I can see if there’s a way to get those usfm files into Paratext.)

There IS a non-Strong’s version of the World English Bible American Edition you can use. I just tried to upload engWEBUS to the DBL for a reference, but failed due to a GBL certificate failure. I’ll try again, later.
