PT9.2

For specific reasons, the list associated with the project is the “All Biblical Terms” and it must stay that way.

Of course I have the option to change to the “Major Biblical Terms” list to display in the terms tool. For a fundamental study on proper names, we would like to display the Major Terms and to filter for persons or names.

But: The filter does not work. I have the menu and I can create new filters but they always display 0 hits.

Question: Do the filters only work for the one associated list? If not, how can I filter for all proper names of people and locations please?

If yes: What happens, if I change the associated list temporarily, hoping to change back to the “All Terms” list after the names-project is settled? Will we lose many hours of identified renderings?

thank you for your help

The Major Biblical Terms list is the only list that has categories and semantic domains defined, so if you are creating a filter that filters on categories, then any non-major BT list will show zero hits.

Renderings are remembered regardless of what list you are viewing or which one is chosen as the default for the project, so you can switch freely between lists and create renderings for different lists. The renderings are associated with the term ID (Hebrew/Greek form) so if a given term is in multiple lists, the renderings will be applied for each list. So if you switch to the Major Biblical Terms list and add some renderings and then switch back to the All Biblical Terms, then renderings for any terms that appear in both lists will show up there as well.

EDIT: Also, it wasn’t clear if you are wanting to change your project BT list temporarily, but you can switch lists without changing the default for the project (see the Select biblical terms list menu item in the Biblical Terms tool).

Thank you @anon291708 ! I do not want to change anything, even temporarily, but I am glad that you explained that changing the “assignment” does not result in losing work.

It was just a hunch, because the filters on the Major Terms List give nothing, that maybe I need to change the assignment (temporarily) to be able to use the filters.

I will mark a milestone and test my hunch. Will report back.

No joy: I made the assignment to “Major Biblical Terms” and launched the biblical terms tool fresh. I also of course selected the Major Terms List in the keyterms tool, to make it show up. The list brings up the terms as expected.

But:
Started “new filter”, clicked “Reset All” and when I select for example “Name” in Categories, I see “Filter matches 0 items in All books. 0 items in project …”.

If I also select for example “people” or “person” in the Semantic Domains, I also get “Filter matches 0 items.”

Our PT9 is very stable and normally all features are working just fine. I feel that I am missing something.

When you click on “Reset All”, how many terms does it say match?

EDIT: I get the same behavior you do if I select the “Major Biblical Terms (SIL Semantic Domains)” list instead of the “Major Biblical Terms” list (the top option). Can you verify you are selecting the correct BT list?

Dear @anon291708 , it was the choice of list. I kept seeing all those years the SIL list and had understood that Major Biblical Terms was the list of words and SIL had done all the tagging to assign the names, plants, locations etc.

Turns out that I had it all wrong and that the “small entry” in the list is what we need.

You have helped us muchly. I am very glad that PT is vindicated as stable and complete and that this week we can start making fundamental decisions about those proper names. Thank you!!
