I use PT8 with Linux (PT9 is unbearably slow, and as far as I know there’s no further development in the works for PT in Linux). I know that FieldWorks doesn’t play well with PT8 in Linux, and I don’t rely on them working together. However, I cannot access Project > Project Properties and Settings. Every time I try, I get the error: “Paratext could not load the files that are needed to access the FieldWorks lexical data. You should verify that your FieldWorks programs are working correctly. [OK]” FieldWorks (9.0.17) is working fine.

Could someone help me get past this? I’d sure appreciate it!

Thanks for the suggestion, @anon291708. I snipped “FieldWorks:Lengo-02” out of:

saved Settings.xml, and started PT8. Unfortunately, I get the same error when trying to open Project Properties and Settings…
Someone else suggested, “A workaround in Windows is to launch Paratext 8 from a batch file that blanks out the environment variable for Fieldworks. I think you can do this in Linux if you know how to write scripts. The environment variable to blank out is FIELDWORKSDIR,” but I don’t know if this will work in Linux, nor do I know how to write scripts.

Wondering if anyone here would know how to write a Linux script to launch PT8 that blanks out the environment variable for FieldWorks? I’d sure appreciate help with that.

Paul,

Unfortunately I tested by blanking the environment variable and then launching PT8 from the same terminal (so that the blanked variable should have been respected). It did NOT solve the problem and I still could not open “Project Properties and Settings”, getting the same error as before :frowning: So we are still looking for a solution.

If you are okay with removing the association entirely, you can edit the Settings.xml file for the project and remove the AssociatedLexicalProject entry.
