How to run two different interlinearizers to EN and to FR (solved)

Question

For a few years, I have done an interlinear back translation to English for quality control, for my personal language learning and just for fun. I have one dependent project to dump my interlinear results into (Destination Text). And also another one, where I write pretty free translations.

Now the project wants to streamline the work-flow for consultant-checks and wants to move the French free-back-translation and the French interlinear-back-translation from Flex over to PT.

I am fine with French but do not want to lose any data, if at all possible.

So any input on how to run two interlinearizers on one project please?

• How do we toggle between the two?:
• Do we need to fill all the boxes like “Model Text” and “Destination Text” each time we want to go from one to the other?
• Will a “new” interlinearizer (when filling the boxes with new choices) overwrite any existing data when I first open/use it?

We know well how the system works for just one interlinearizer and we have already created the dependend projects or Destination Text (back translation status) to receive the new French content.

(Bonus question 1: And soon this project shall be migrated from PT8 to PT9; I see on this forum that some users had issues with loosing interlinear data between PT7 and 8. Any detail we need to know/consider before we move?)

(Bonus question 2: Any suggestions for a suitable rather-literal French version to use as “Model Text” for the soon-to-be-created French interlinear work?)

I’m not sure this will answer all (or any) of your questions adequately, but here is a quick video on the Interlinear in 9.2 Please note that there is no “migration” from PT8 to PT9 like there was with PT7 to PT8. Versions 8 and 9 use the same data.

Dear anon848905, thank you muchly. It took me several minutes to realize that you just created the video right now, that was kind of you.

Yes, it does answer the main question of “can I use more than one” indirectly. In the video at 4:29 I see a warning with “The interlinearizer can only use language data for one purpose at a time… You have already set up … for (Spanish)…” Which is telling me that having one for English and a different one for French might well be possible.

Even the fact that you are “hopping” between several set-up interlinearizers in a window that is listing “choices” for you is indirectly encouraging.

In a few days I will post here how it went; I am now encouraged to give it a try.

As promised, here our update: We installed PT9.2 and managed to create a second interlinearizer for French, with the “glossing only” option. So that part was easy. We also have a sub-project where we paste a French free back translation, which is provided/prepared by another part of the team.

Only sad aspect is that the new interlinearizer constantly crashes. Every few entries, the window just closes, without any error message and without any (so far) obvious pattern. This will be a separate threat. Not workable like this.

This is a known issue and should be fixed in the recent 9.2 update (9.2.102.3) which is out to pre-release users. It can also be downloaded directly from the Paratext website.
