Unexpected book after chapter separator

Question

In our Paratext project in the book of Psalms, we inserted a footnote or cross-reference in the section heading (\s1 marker). When we ran a basic check it gives an error saying “Unexpected book after chapter separator”. How do we solve this issue? Need your help.

For future reference, I have also found the Scripture Reference Settings window (Project menu > Project settings > Scripture Reference Settings) to be helpful in diagnosing these types of problems, especially when I cannot figure out why there is an issue:

That error is from the References Check. It’s likely caused by your \xo not matching what it expects - specifically, I think it’s complaining that colons are your chapter separator and there is unexpected text around the chapter separator in the \xo.

Note that if you double-click on an error, it will take you to the problem in the text.

The error here is that the \xo field expects the first thing to be the chapter. You could have just \xo 3 \xt or you could have \xo 3:0 \xt, but putting the word for Psalms before the 3 causes the error. (The error message is poorly written).

If you are confident that there is no error you can deny the message. Denying messages is not the ideal way to work with issues, but in this case you cannot include the word for Psalms before the 3.

Yes, you are right anon848905, after removing the text “Title” or “Lap” the error is gone. Thanks

By the way, our project is in the middle window.

Note that in the Scripture Reference Settings you can add " Title: " (spaces make a difference) in the extra material and this will allow the entry “3 Title:” to pass. You cannot enter a normal book name (like Lap) in the extra material.

You are using a full stop instead of a colon in the middle \x note on the left pane. Everywhere else you are using colon. That is what the message is telling you.
