I thought the update file (patch_8.0.100.71.msp) would be down in the ParatextUpdate folder under AppData. If it was, we could use the file from one computer to update 6 other computers in the same room. The 71 update is not there. So, is the only option to download it from the website?

I’m pretty sure the update file gets deleted after the update completes. Once you get the message a new update is ready, you could shutdown PT and copy the file out of that folder before restarting PT. But once you’ve actually run the update I think your only option is to download it again… unless it gets moved to the recycle bin, I don’t actually know about that.

It would be nice if the last update was allowed to stay there since we also use the same method of updating all our systems. But never realised why it worked sometimes and did not at other times.

Thank you. I got it. The deleted file is not in the recycle bin.

After experimenting a bit, the update file was not deleted immediately after the update was installed. But it was deleted as soon as I closed Paratext again.

The 8.0.100.67 update is still in my app data folder, even though I installed it a while back. I also was curious about this because it is helpful for us to have the update handy to install for users who don’t have administrator rights on their computers.

I wonder if the procedure has been changed with update 71? If you want to update to 71, you might check what happens. I do not know if it matters what version of Windows one runs. I use Windows 10.

The latest released patch is always available at https://pt8.paratext.org/download/currentversion/
If an update is successful then the update file is deleted from the update folder under C:\Users{user}\AppData\Local\Paratext80\ParatextUpdate
If you see an update in that folder it indicates that Paratext never successfully ran that file.

So if we want to use that
file to update all the computers in our offices we would have to
take it before updating the computer it was downloaded on,
correct?

Yes, if you want to use the file that is downloaded automatically to update other computers you should choose not to update and copy the file to another location. Then you can do the update.
