I received this note from a translator who had Paratext 8 installed and working on her computer, but encountered an error. I told her to uninstall, reinstall, and run the update file.

She wrote back with this, “A friend here had the offline Paratext installer and the update file. I installed those, but when I open Paratext and try to do a send/receive to receive our projects, a message comes up saying that there is
a missing file—c:\My Paratext 8 Projects. But actually that folder is there, because I copied and pasted it from my small laptop.”

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Copy/paste of the My PT8 Projects folder does NOT work well!
Projects should be transferred from a second computer via S/R, and
resources should be added via the File menu item.

I suspect something in the copied folder contains a hard-coded ref
to its path that includes the old machine and/or user names. But I
would not recommend searching for such a reference. Just start over:
Delete the copied c:/My PT8 Projects folder and rename the settings
folder(s) that are recommended to delete if you have a problem
starting PT.

S/R from ALL project computers to the internet to get everything
updated. Then S/R from a working computer to a thumb drive, and from
the thumb drive to the new computer. Install resources as desired.
Certain PT-wide settings files/folders can be copied directly to the
new machine if needed.

I hope I have interpreted this question correctly…

Blessings,

KimB
