This may be an unintended feature, but, in Paratext 7.5, I’ve found it’s possible to enter notes in the UBS Greek New Testament (PT7) resource. As with notes entered in a project, the notes are saved to an xml file and remain accessible in subsequent sessions.

This “feature” doesn’t seem available in PT8.

I’ve encountered only two shortcomings, which perhaps someone can address:

(1) I can’t change the input font of my notes; they remain in a Greek font regardless of the language chosen in the drop-down box of the Notes menu. So, when I want to enter English text, I cut and paste from a text editor.

(2) These notes apparently can’t be accessed via File / Open Notes, the way notes entered in projects can be accessed.

Can anyone help me figure out a workaround for these two shortcomings?

(You may ask why I’m wanting to enter notes in a resource. It’s because I’m taking an online Greek exegesis course, and it’s very helpful to be able to enter observations and questions as I work through the Greek text in Paratext 7.5.)

Thanks!

This seems like a good place to make use of a “Consultant Notes” project. If you create a Consultant Notes project for Greek you can use the View > Show Consultant Notes to display those flags in the resource. You can also open a Consultant Notes project like you would open regular notes.

Check out Help on Consultant Notes for more information.

Thank you, anon848905! That works much better. It keeps the resource text clean and lets me view my notes in list style in an adjacent window rather than a pop-up. Best of all, it lets me see English as English and not as English transliterated into Greek! I’m assuming this works in PT8, as well. I’ll try that later today.

Yes, consultant notes projects are for this purpose. You can have many consultant notes projects. For example, you can have one for your class, and others for linguistics, personal application, Biblical Theology, and so forth.
