I received this email from a user in the village. She only has very limited email, no Internet S/R capabilities. She is returning from the village in 2 days, so we hope to be able to solve this before then. Thanks for any suggestions.

"I seem to have broken the send/receive on paratext.

On the team computer, when we use the usb we have been regularly using
for send/receive, we get a message which says “Paratext could not
complete the send/receive for Kope because another user did a
send/receive at about the same time. Try doing the send/receive again.”

No matter how many agains we try, we get the same message, and as there
is only one user on that computer, I’m not sure what the message is
talking about.

This morning I tried a send/receive with a new usb. The team computer
said that it sent the whole project. When I then did the send/receive on
my computer, it said there was nothing new to send or receive… which
is not the case. I have lots of resolved flags to send them, and lots of
edits to receive from them.

What are your suggestions for fixing this?

What are your suggestions for plan B and plan C that mean I can bring
the data from the team computer for you to get onto the general project,
but leave the computer here. I really really do not want to bring their
computer back up to Ukarumpa again, but want to leave it here for them
to continue their work."

Here were our suggestions to her:

On the USB flashdrive where you do NOT get the error:

-Rename “Shared Paratext Projects” to “Shared Paratext Projects Old”

-Do a USB Send/Receive on your computer, then the team computer, then your computer again. If that doesn’t work, try doing it on the team computer and your computer again (just making sure it gets “going”).

-If that doesn’t work, do you have a 3rd flashdrive you could try the same steps on?

If that does work, do this on both computers:

-Click on the Kope project in Paratext

-Go to Tools > Advanced > Diagnostics > Verify Project Repositories

-If it tells you it fixed anything, try the USB steps above again

-If it gives you a problem report, we can’t fix it from the village.

If you get a problem report, do this on the Kope machine:

-Put a USB flashdrive into the Kope computer

-Click on the Kope project

-Go to File > Backup project to File

-Click Browse and choose a location on the UBS flashdrive

-Type your name

-Click OK

Also if you get a problem report, do this on the Kope machine:

-Go to Home > Paratext8Projects

-Copy the whole Kope folder to the USB flashdrive

Below is her response. We’re really not sure what to do at this point. Kim was wondering if this could result from somebody copying the Kope folder from My Paratext Projects to My Paratext 8 Projects without migrating. I know that I did migrate this, but somebody else may have done something else.

"When I did the send/receive with the new USB, starting with my computer, I got the same error message as with the old USB when I then did the send/receive on the Kope One computer. When I started with the Kope One computer, the USB went back and forth saying “no changes” even though the two are currently different.

I looked a"verify project repositories" on Kope One and got this error message:

*** Verifying Kope ***
Local repository ok
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. verifying source Internet Server
Repository Kope - (cd64b0870cd798c92f318ab1a7adfdef1130829b) (/media/kope/TSB USB DRV/Shared Paratext 8 Projects) ok

When I first did a send/receive on the Kope One computer with the new usb (tried twice, as I had another USB) I got a message that said “The history for project Kope contains changes from other versions of Paratext that cannot be merged.” I think we’d got this message in previous weeks, clicked okay, and all went fine.

I have done a backup of the Kope One PT, and copied over the whole PT8 project file."

Any other ideas?

The message about the project being locked means that they were trying
send/receive to the internet and it probably failed once and left the
project locked. Maybe when they reset Paratext they forgot to reselect the
USB drive.

Maybe they should just disable the internet on Tools > Options.

On USB drives, the send/receive folder is Shared Paratext 8 Projects.

The message about “other Paratext versions” probably means a user has an
old version of Paratext 8 on their system and that would explain why others
aren’t getting their changes. This check was put in to prevent problems
that could occur trying to merge files of different data versions. We need
to review if there is a better way to handle this. Have all the users do
Help > About to verify the version they have.

It would be helpful if we could get a problem report from one of the
systems. If internet is first disabled, a report can be created and it will
be out on the desktop and it could be copied to a USB and emailed later.

Hope this helps,
