For a project that I have migrated to PT8 they have a couple of “auxiliary” projects, like one for exegetical notes and one with testing questions. From what I’ve seen you can’t do S/R to the Internet if you anon421222’t register the project. But is it still possible to do S/R to a USB key? I haven’t figured out a way to do that.

If you need to register the project to do any S/R at all, what would be the recommend project details for such a project? Use the Study Notes type? And I assume you would record it under the same language code, but I seem to recall some dire warnings if there are more than one project with the same language code (something about competing projects, or something).

Thanks for any pointers.

Paratext was recently changed so that the users on the Auxiliary project can be different from the users on the base project. Not sure when that change will be released, but it is coming.

It should be in 8.0.100.17. However, because of the way the users were forced to be the same in previous versions, all users on a project will have to upgrade to 8.0.100.17 or later for it to consistently work correctly with a different set of users.

Great! Thank you so much for making that change!

For those of you who can’t wait for the official release, 8.0.100.17 is available as a pre-release if you click Help while pressing the Shift key, go to Advanced > Release Stage in the sub menu, and then check the Pre-release (recommended for supporters) option. Finally go to Help > Check for Updates… to download it.

It would probably be best to select Auxiliary in the Type of Project field and the main project in the Based on field under Project Properties and Settings for these type of projects. You will then be able to use send/receive with them without having to register them. Unfortunately, though, it is not possible to configure the list of users for Auxiliary projects. The user list will always be the same as for the base project.

See Help topic What is an Auxiliary project? for more info.
