This is an issue that has been reported to the developers.
As a work around you can create the figure text in another project and then copy the text to the sidebar. Note that you will need to copy the .tif file to the \local\figures folder of the SBA and the equivalent .jpg to the \figures folder in order to have the figure show up in preview mode.
